April 2025 Reading Recap

Another wonderful month of reading. This month I was able to get into some books by new-to-me authors and that made me happy. It was another month of primarily audiobooks.

Spilling The Tea by Brenda Jackson
Another Madaris story. This one was wonderful. It got into Mama Laverne and her past. It revealed a lot of family secrets. There was more than one love story in this book. I enjoyed it a lot and hope that there are more Madaris books yet to come. Mama Laverne needs to live forever.

Unlikely Neighbors by Renee Daniel Flagler
Needs to be a content warning that this book deals with cancer. She has a cancer scare and decides to move out of her small town. Then she inherits a brownstone in Brooklyn. He is her neighbor. I enjoyed this book a lot. The cancer plot point didn’t ruin it for me like I figured it would.

A Miller’s Pointe Christmas
Beauden & Yelena by Charity Shane
Breaudie & Tori by T’Lyn
Wilde & Shore by K.C. Mills
Kevo & Juvi by M.L. Bash
Duhani & Versai by Kennedy B.
Deacon & Brooklyn by Charleigh Harper
I listened to an audiobook that was a collection of all of these stories. Each one was really good. Even though they were written by different authors, they all flowed together really well. This was a small town I wouldn’t mind visiting.

One In A Million by Beverley Kendall
I picked this book because I wanted to read something from the author. Then I read the blurb and just had to see what it was all about. A Black actress froze her eggs and turns out that the clinic used one of her eggs for a couple. So she finds out she has a daughter. Then she finds out the couple split and the daughter is being raised by a single white father. This was a really unique love story. I enjoyed it a lot.

The Other Lata by Kirthana Ramisetti
This was such a cute book. A woman impersonates another woman who has the same name as she does. Then the craziness snowballs. It was well done.

Hooked On You by Ada Barume
I enjoyed this book. A reporter stuck on a boat trying to write a story about a billionaire. She falls for the ship’s captain.

Before The Dawn by Beverly Jenkins
This was my last Ms. Bev historical that I had left to read. I had been saving it but my spirit really needed it. I loved this book so much. It is definitely a favorite.

The Greene Sisters Series by Kristina Forest
The Neighbor Favor
The Partner Plot
The Love Lyric
Loved this series. Each sister was unique and had a different route to finding their happily ever after.

Wanderlust Series by Turtleberry
India
Asia
Kenya
Egypt
I hadn’t read through this series since I published it and wanted to revisit these characters again.

Private Agenda by Christina C. Jones
This book had me in a chokehold from the first few paragraphs as I tried to figure out what was going on. As always, I loved the book. Y’all know that CCJ is one of my favorites. I have several books in her backlist that I want to read but this book jumped in line because the audio became available to me through Patreon and I couldn’t help myself.

If We Were A Movie by Zakiya N. Jamal
This was a cute sapphic YA romance novel with Black leads. I really enjoyed this book. It was well done.

I’m not sure how many books I will get to read in May because I plan on doing a lot of writing. There are several waiting for me to write a review and several more on my immediate TBR that I want to get into. We’ll see what happens.
