Love Is A Contact Sport by Frederick Smith

I have this thing where I really only want to read gay romance written by a gay man. Because of that, I haven’t read much because those authors don’t pop up on my radar that often. I follow this author on social media and he had been promoting this book. Then it showed up on Net Galley and I decided I really wanted to read it. This was my first gay romance in a really long time.

Brent and Renny met in college. Renny was a very open gay man. Brent was really just discovering he was gay and very much in the closet with it. They became friends and then secret lovers. Then Brent has to leave school to marry his girlfriend who was pregnant.

The story opens twenty years later. Renny and Brent encounter each other again when they are both honored by their college’s alumni association. The sparks were still there.

This story is told in the present day with flashbacks to their years in college. It alternates POV between Brent and Renny.

I really enjoyed this story. Brent and his radical honesty. Renny and his scandalous mouth. This was a very well done second chance romance. Renny was rightfully hesitant but Brent was patient and willing to do the work.

I look forward to reading more books by this author.
