In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Fool Me Once.”
This prompt made me chuckle.
I absolutely hate the whole notion of April Fool’s Day. I am not a fan of pranks.
Don’t get me wrong. I have pulled a few pranks in my time, most of them when I was a kid.
Although I had a co-worker who loved to pull pranks on people and no on could seem to get him back. On my second to last day at work I emptied his entire cubicle, made it look like no one worked in that spot.
So I do have a sense of humor.
However, I guess what bugs me are the mean-spirited pranks. I don’t like it when people laugh at other people’s pain. I don’t like when people make jokes out of things that are serious (like lying about someone’s death). I’ve seen pranks when people get hurt.
I guess it depends on your sense of humor.
It is not funny to tease or bully someone. You can’t do that and say it was an April Fool’s Prank.
It is not funny to cause someone emotional pain and then say it was a joke.
It is not okay to be deceptive just because it is the first day of April.
I don’t want to “gently deceive” my readers because I want my readers to trust what I put into my blog.
If you are going to prank don’t be a fool about it. Also, don’t get mad if the person doesn’t get the joke or take it as a joke.
